Extended Care
Alta Mira's Extended Care Program provides an opportunity for clients to step into a reduced level of structure while remaining in a safe and supportive residential environment. This allows clients to learn to apply tools and principles they have learned in Primary Treatment in the less structured yet supportive environment of Extended Care.
Many patients elect to combine Primary Treatment with Extended Care. Clients will transition into Extended Care once they have demonstrated they are ready.
As clients encounter triggers and other challenges re-integrating into the community around Alta Mira, they can come return to their groups and process what they are learning and encountering. This provides an excellent way to practice recovery skills in real-world situations prior to discharge.
Alta Mira's Extended Care Program is an intensive continuation for those who have completed Primary Treatment or for clients who have completed other primary recovery programs.

Clients can begin to explore the many facets of the Bay Area during their free time including taking classes and establishing themselves in local recovering communities |
| Community work | | Clients may elect to volunteer in the local community as they begin to find opportunities to be helpful to others in their early recovery

Alta Mira also offers Extended Care for patients who have completed Primary Treatment elsewhere. Clients coming from other facilities will spend some time in Primary Treatment during the initial assessment and evaluation in order to ensure that they will be safe to move into Extended Care.
